Saturday Sharing

When I first checked The PF Palace on FrEYEday morning, I noticed The Ledge Looker -

The latest Falcon Wire entry shares some of the story of The Steller Eagle who is ALL THE TALK OF THE TOWN
1/20/2022  ::   A Remarkable Raptor in the News!

There's an amazing story in the news that Falcon Watch enthusiasts should find interesting. In early January, a rare sea eagle, known as Steller's sea eagle, has been again spotted in New England thousands of miles from home - this time in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Last December, MassWildlife confirmed the bird was seen along the Taunton River. The month before the same eagle was identified in Nova Scotia. Experts believe this same bird has been observed in Alaska and Canada, and was featured in Smithsonian Magazine.

Read the full Smithsonian article here:

Read the story from MassWildlife:

The Steller's sea eagle is native to Asia--specifically China, Japan, Korea, and Eastern Russia.

This is an amazing example of the phenomenon known as vagrancy which occurs when a bird veers off course, possibly due to a navigation error, or it may have been blown off course by extreme weather patterns. Experts suspect the lone traveler may migrate with native bald eagles along the coastline, making its way back to its normal ranges in northeastern Asia.

HOpe the new bed is nice and toasty on these long winter nights! It's so cold here that I will only let Katie go do her business and then we're back inside. No long walks right now. She's disgusted with me.
