7/1/2021  ::   Necropsy results for "Red"

A necropsy was performed on "Red," the juvenile that perished when it flew into the Rachel Carson State Office Building (RCSOB) during the 2021 Falcon Watch and Rescue. Two aspects of the necropsy were a heavy metal and an organic chemical screen. For heavy metals there are no reference ranges specific to peregrine falcons. Therefore, the results were compared to the reference ranges for bald eagles. Results indicate the heavy metal levels were below normal. The results for the organic chemical screen indicated "No compounds of interest reported." These results indicate no abnormal levels of heavy metals or organic chemicals were present. This is good news as it relates to the other two peregrine falcons banded yellow and green. The necropsy results suggest that, without abnormal levels of heavy metals or organic chemicals present, "Red's" nestmates "Yellow" and "Green" likely do not have unhealthy compounds present within their bodies. Thanks to the PA Game Commission for having this necropsy performed and sharing the results with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

Wondering where the weekend is - and when will it be here!?!

Good news with regard to the falcon. Still sad.

My khattledog experience tells me Will might also be wondering about food, and treats and mischief.

We're having beautiful weather and blue skies with puffy white clouds today too.
