Background on peregrine nesting behavior
DEP has received inquiries regarding the nest box recently. Each year, the resident female, 48/AE, "improves" the nest by scraping an indentation into the gravel. This mimics the typical nesting behavior of peregrine falcons, including natural settings such as high cliffs or ledges. For the 2021 nesting season, with restrictions due to COVID-19, accessing the ledge to add gravel wasn't possible. Therefore, the nest box and ledge are a bit messy! This restricted access also prevented a more recent cleaning of the camera's lenses for Falcon Cam. And now that eggs are in the nest, any future maintenance will not occur until sometime after the young falcons fledge.

Lulu: "Now Dada says he wants a blackberry vanilla latte!"
Once again, #1 is so envious that you can actually go out to eat. We haven't been able to since last November, and now we are in lockdown again until the end of April.
Woofs,
Ollie
