Tuesday Telling

 Monday from The PF Palace Ledge -

 New Falcon Wire Entry -
5/18/2020  ::   Hair- and Feather-Raising Developments
During the 2020 reproductive season, falcon followers have observed the female, 48 A/E, staying with the newly hatched young with the male, W/V, bringing food to the nest-box. Now 48 A/E has resumed hunting with W/V getting brief opportunities to directly feed the hatchlings. Additional changes to watch the hatchlings for this week will begin with the continuing emergence of the dark juvenile feathers on their backs. By the middle of the week, look for more loss of down on the breast revealing the heavily streaked breast typical of juvenile peregrine falcons. Later this week, the hatchlings will increase preening, so by the end of the week, down feathers will be restricted to the base of their legs!
In terms of activity, the young are further exploring the 15th floor ledge. This is a hair-raising period for Falcon Cam followers as they may venture close to the edge. As nerve-wracking as this can be, it is important to remember that this is all part of the developmental process. This is all leading to their first flight (39-49 days after hatching) ... that's only around 10 days away!
