5/28/2020 :: Watch and Rescue is Underway!
On May 27, Day Two of the 2020 Falcon Watch and Rescue saw the season's first fledge at 1:18 pm, and its first rescue two minutes later as the yellow-footed male came to the ground on 4th Street, near Strawberry Street. The young falcon was not injured and appeared healthy, but during rescue, a possible mite infestation was observed around the fledgling's mouth and head. Normally, the young falcons are treated for mites and given a basic physical during the annual banding event by PA Game Commission biologists, but this year the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so out of an abundance of caution the young falcon was taken to Red Creek Wildlife Center. Prognosis looks positive towards the young falcon being returned, possibly before the end of the week!
