Fondly Friday

Summi's Mummi Shelly and Her Mummi Bonnie
What a smile!

A memory of times gone by - and how Shelly and her mom spent quite a few Saturday nights in Glenwood IA - watching Lawrence Welk together - including their last Saturday night together - which happened last weekend

After a battle of several years with the nasty Big A, a stroke finally took her - although she fought it

Over the past week or so , anytime I got a text or call from Shelly, I answered with trepidation - and Shelly would answer she's still here - despite what the awesome hospice staff expected - at one point, I said she's waiting for Winter -

So Wednesday morning, the text came - she chose today - so when our candle was lit Wednesday evening, it was for Summi's Mummi's Mummi's journey as well

How fitting that Thursday - December 22 - was Shelly's parents' 65th Wedding Anniversary - and they got to spend it together -

I will be wearing blue today - along with most of the residents of Glenwood as they celebrate a special member of their community - as it was Bonnie's favourite colour

Hey Khyra - thanks for letting me borrow your blog for today!

what a lovely tribute. She was one smart lady knowing what she wanted until the end. Momma use to watch the Lawrence Welk show w/ my neighbor Mary every Sat. Always a fond memory.

And our mom will be giving lots of hugs to Summi's Mummi Friday from so many of us who care so much for her and treasure her friendship. Summi's Mummi will definitely feel the love! So sad that Bonnie is no longer with us, but she is finally at peace and can celebrate 65 years with her beloved. That's just as it should be.

I'm so sorry for Summi's Mummi's loss :(

My Grandma (who was more of a Mummi) had the Big A. I'm missing her more than usual this time of year, which is weird because she was never big into Christmas. I guess because everyone is focusing on family and mine feels lacking.

I'll be wearing blue too - it's part of my required uniform, but I'll be thinking of Summi's Mummi's Mummi. Their whole family is in my thoughts. Soft woos from Layla :(

Our deepest sympathies to Shelly and her family. It is very difficult to lose a mother, and to have it happen at this time of the year makes ot especially tough. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Shelly and family.

( we are in St. Loulis, helping all the folks who live with Aunt Marie celebrate Christmas. They love our little bells!)

How sweet they got to spend the time together. Hugs to the family. My dad also waited for his favorite time of year--fall. And always made us sing his favorite Christmas Carol twice every Christmas Eve (he was a minister): Silent Night. We both loved Christmas, too. Fond memories indeed!

Thank you so much for the perfect post!! Moms are so special and I cherished each and every moment with her. Lawrence Welk was a favorite and we would look at the beautiful dresses and outfits and she would clap after all the songs. She most certainly did chose the day and as much as I will miss her, I'm delighted that it was on her terms. Thank you all for the lovely wishes. What a wonderful family we are a part of.
