AND SPEAKING OF FUREVER HOMES - look evFURRYone

In his almost officially FUREVER home!!!
Thursday night Mom and I got the above pikhs along with this furry special note from Amy

Rocky's story has another chapter, and I wanted to update everyone. I am waiting for the day when I can finally tell you his happy ending, and I am confident that day is coming very soon.

Rocky has found his forever family. For some time, we had thought that maybe he had found it at our home, but there was always that lingering sense that we knew he needed more attention, more hugs, more petting--he deserved more than we could give him. So, we left him on Petfinder and continued to drag him to adoption events. We got an email a few weeks back, and I just knew when I read it that it was "the one." The family has 2 children, had lost their Akita
recently, weren't looking to adopt yet, but saw his picture and just knew. They live in the Poconos and are a young, active family. None of Rocky's ailments fazed them, and they checked out beautifully. We spent a lot of time getting to know them, and it just felt right. The only thing missing was a friend for Rocky, and when we told them that, they asked how they could go about adopting another dog from us.

Before Rocky could go to his new home, we were dealt another blow. We had a 4Dx done on Rocky "just in case" since he was about to be adopted. He was not due yet, but we felt the need to be sure. Rocky came up heartworm positive (he had been negative last March, and has been on preventative since). The family was unwavering in wanting to adopt him. We followed up with tests, and we found that yes, he is definitely positive, but he has no microfilaria (baby worms), so the preventative was working, but it is not enough to kill the mature worms in his heart. Rocky began medication today, and he will begin treatment in 2 weeks. He is a fighter, and we know he will pull through.

Today was one of the hardest days of my life. We let Rocky go to his new home. I had no idea how much of my heart that big lug had stolen or quite how painful this decision would be. I know now how hard that decision must have been on Debbie last June, but we all want the same for this big boy who just craves attention--and we knew he deserved more than our busy households. I had a panic moment, almost couldn't do it, but I knew in my heart this was the best thing for him. His family welcomed him with open arms, a big bed, loads of toys and a sign noting where his room was (their 9 year old daughter made the sign). They made it as easy as it could possibly be, and we knew he would get the love and attention he deserves. As we left, the tears didn't stop, and even Andrew cried and called out "Cocky, Cocky" trying to let us know that we forgot something. Rocky sat by the door and watched us go. I have that image imprinted in my mind right now, worrying that he is still waiting for us. The family let us know that he did stay by the door, but he also ate and was resting peacefully. We know, with time, he will adjust and thrive.

Now, in an effort not to be too depressing, I want to let you know that after Rocky is healthy, he will hopefully get a girlfriend (we are thinking Kia who is on our website). And, Andrew may have found a girlfriend (their 22 month old, Olivia, who bosses him around like any girl should! ;-).

Please keep Rocky in your thoughts. I will keep you posted, and here's to wishing for that "happily ever after" update to come very soon. :-)

Hugs, Amy
Isn't that GREAT news???

Please furgive the khrappy text FURmatting - I didn't have time to fight with Blogger AND still enjoy my Saturday free time - as well as visit the zillion blogs that khollekhted whilst Mom was at work in anticipation of her being on the road fur a while with Cody, Lacey, and Mary!

BUT as khompensation, here are two videos from last Saturday's Golden Khousins' visit - Video One features the BOUNCING Harley and Video Two was some fun in the snow!

Mom's Saturday shift went okay - she's looking furward to getting bakhk there on Wednesday to see what she did khorrekhtly and/or inkhorrekhtly - the staff on duty in her area were helpful and gave her sufficient time to work on what she needed to do - she's made notes about what she has khwestions about fur when she returns to start her official Wednesday thru Saturday shift!

She wanted me to thank all fur the words of support!

Happy Sunday to All!

Hugz&Khysses,

Khyra

Hey Khyra, Merdie and Mom,
What a GReat group you have for transport. Dad says he knows how Amy feels about Rocky leaving for his new furever home, that's why he flunks Fostering 101 and also why there are 11 of us dogs living here. It's bit chilly down here today but at least we don't have to deal with any white stuff. The water bowls are all froozed though and dad says it's too cold for being outside so we'll be enjoying the warm inside and maybe watch the games. As New England fans we really want that Pennsylvania team in Pittsburgh to thrash, annihilate, destroy, clobber and humiliate that New York (not York) team. Just sayin'. OBTW: We LOVE Merdie.
