Looking towards winter, Falcon Cam followers should anticipate the resident female, 48/AE, will likely stay in Harrisburg near the 15th floor ledge of the Rachel Carson State Office Building (RCSOB). She has ample and sustainable prey, primarily the rock dove (pigeon), and familiarity with the area. Years of occupancy on site yield a deep map of the territory - places to find food, niches to shelter, and a knowledge of the local area - that helps animals survive even under adverse conditions.

As for the new resident male 85/AK, based on his first appearance last year, we suspect that this falcon will leave the RCSOB site, likely migrating southward. This would mimic the behavior of the long-time resident male W/V, who would disappear once the cold weather arrived and not return until February. Falcons that stay on site have an advantage against territorial interlopers and are less likely to find themselves replaced by another mate come springtime. 85/AK risks losing his position as the dominant male while away so Falcon Cam watchers should continue to monitor the ledge to see how the impact of migration might affect the mating pair that make the 15th floor ledge their home.

It appears Wednesday and Thursday will be nice!

I had not yet shared 'here' but I have truly been flying solo at The GKP - the one I"m replacing - or should I say replaced - had his last day last Thursday - so lots of muddling and fumbling - but with everyone's help and patience and understanding, I'll get there - just trying not to dwell on it too mich so I don't work nyself up too much -
