Mom and are going to khlose our part of the post here - save fur sharing the deTAILS on the pikhs to follow - we don't want to risk loosing the text khopied and pasted from the email with the passengers AND dedikhation fur the run Mom would have done on Sunday - in fakht, she hopes all the words will show - unlike the furst few versions of Sunday's post - Blogger was really being a booger - that's why it looks like some khat did it and not a khrafty khanine or human!

Now fur the pups -and then the story of Minnie Materhead -

Helpless - AKA Aggie

Nanny - and yes, she had pups - all had been placed but this handsome fella - akhtually, she was surrendered to a vet's office pregnant - grrrrrrrrrr

Goliath

YES, we heard the skhweeeeeeeees!

Minnie Materhead

Minnie and her story from her mom Melonie - Melonie is often nice enough to drive or provide an overnight stop on the Saturday Sunday journey's fur The Last Resort Rescue passengers - an upkhoming run will still be dedikhation to her but Mom will probably doing another one so we wanted to share it NOW!

She crossed the rainbow bridge on 10/19/09. Please read her story below. What a lucky girl she was to walk up the right driveway that night! Please read her story below from Melonie: Minnie Materhead got her nickname because she loved to run in and out of the vegetable garden and I was always spastic about it since I heard tomatoes are poisonous to dogs. But she just seemed so happy in there that I just watched her closely. She always came out smelling like the 'maters!
In Jan 2009, I had my 10-year old jack russell terrier and a 2-year old golden retriever. I still have both these dogs. I had been begging and pleading with my husband for a third dog but having no luck getting him to agree. He took some time off around his birthday and on Jan 29th while I was on my way home from work and on the phone with him, a beagle walked up our driveway. We knew it didn't belong to any of our neighbors and it didn't have any ID. So I called the local shelters and the local paper in case anyone was looking for her (all the while hoping nobody would be...thinking this was a dream-come-true and I was getting my third dog). I also called into work and said I would not be there the next day as I had found a dog and needed to get it to the vet. She was in bad shape but didn't seem bothered by any of it. She had tons of ticks (some the size of quarters) and sores on her legs that were bleeding and pussing and crusty. She had BLACK teeth! She spent the night in our laundry room and bright and early the next morning, we were off to my local vet's office. I was lucky enough to get a stool sample before the appointment and I will never forget what I saw: more worms than fesces! While at the vet's, she tested positive for everything and I left with a slew of pills and a pretty hefty bill on top of the cost for all the annual stuff. But it was all worth it to get her healthy. We were surprised she was a girl...her "parts" were so swollen when she walked up the driveway that we thought she was an unaltered male! But she shined up like a new penny within a very short time (a few weeks) and we made an appointment to have her spayed and dew claws removed and teeth sonic-cleaned. The vet said after the surgery that her uterus was so stretched and worn that she was probably bred every time she went into heat.
And she started having seizures (typical for beagles, I learned)...some very violent. So we got her on pills for that, too.
She definitely had some survival skills. She could climb our lattice-style dog gate so we had to go and get a slat-style one so she would be confined to the master bathroom if we were not around...but not kenneled and separated entirely from our other dogs who had the run of the house all the time. We were just afraid that the seizures would happen while we weren't around and we didn't know how she or the other dogs would react to one.
We didn't have a fenced-in yard at this time so any "business" was always done while we were with her, although she prefered the living room carpet. lol
It didn't take long to get super-attached and eventually she responded so well to the training that she was running around the front yard with the other two dogs without us having to worry about her disappearing. But we did have to stay close as those hound instincts were strong!
She did manage to get loose from a tie-out we used once in a while the month before she passed. I was frantic but I had a hunch she headed straight for the woods behind the house. I ran down the path calling her name but trying not to sound panic-y (it was just before dark). After about five minutes, she came bounding out of some bushes and followed me home.
The night of October 18th, she threw up. I was surprised since beagles usually have stomachs of steel. But I figured it was nothing more than an upset stomach. I said goodnight to her around midnight and when my husband awoke a few hours later to use the bathroom, he noticed she didn't even stir like she usually does. I knew instantly that she was gone. I'll never forgive myself for not taking her to the vet after the vomiting...and even two years later, I'm still not beyond the pain. But it is getting easier and I know I gave her the best 37 weeks of her life. I paid for the necropsy as I HAD to know what took her from me. The vet said everything internal looked perfect. So they think it was an aneurysm.
Minnie is now an angel and is looking down on her mommy with such pride!

Dogs vomit a lot. You shouldn't feel bad about not going to the vet. There was no way you could have known.

Khyra, we're glad your mom finally took you on your walks! The flutterbye is very pretty!

Yes, you heard our mommy squee! But then she got leaky again after reading Minnie's story. We're so glad she knew what it meant to be loved before she had to go to the Bridge.

Minnie's story broke my heart. Angers me what some people do to animals. But at least she knew true love in the lasst weeks of her life. Her "Mom" may always wonder but she did great by Minnie. We all play the what if game but sometimes we have to accept that things just happen. At least she passed surrounded by love.
All the pics are so cute. If only i could bring them all home. But it isn't possible. Thank you so very much to all that do such wonderful work!

We love your walk and flutterby, Khyra. The beagle is a sad tale; we'd love to outlaw breeding centres that do that to dogs.

I'm so glad Minnie got to know so much love before she went to the bridge. Poor sweet puppy.

The Minnie stry was very moving. mom cried ~ with sadness that any dog should be abandoned to a life of constant breeding and ill health ~ and then with joy that at least minnie has love and health at the end of her life. We cnnot thank her mommy enough for giving Minnie a comfortable end. xx

That was such a happy sad story. Sometimes weird things happen to doggies and they get called over the bridge before their humans have time to prepare themselves, but she knew love and that is what is important.

Beautiful butterfly catch by the Mom. Thanks for sharing,MFT.

The story about Minnie made us all very sad to know that she had such a horrible life but also very happy to know the wonderful life she had with Melonie. And she really shouldn't be so hard on herself because of the vomiting. If Mom took us to the vet every time we vomited, we would never have any green papers for our food. It was just meant to be.

How cool that your mom had the camera out at just the right time to catch them flying by.

Hope you enjoyed your walk. :)

Honestly, Khyra...our butterflies are not near as large here in the better half of the state....obviously those kids have been feasting on cheese steaks....

When we walked in the park this weekend, we saw two Sibes...the boyz went beserk thinking it might have been you, but I could immediately tell by the tails...not floofy enuff...

Oh, can you tell me where you get your 6 inch curling iron?? I'm just sayin'....

Khisses,

Lacie
